Good Lord, who knew there would be all of this controversy over “Popular Demand”? I’d understand if Obama was part of the entourage, eating chicken in the video but let’s relax before Big Brother starts mysteriously pulling down the video. Everyone’s conspiracy theories are all wrong. Here’s what NBC New York has to say:
“A recently released music video for “Popular Demand” by the Clipse featured the awning of the infamous Obama Fried Chicken joint in Brownsville, Brooklyn. But in comparing versions of the video airing on MTV and elsewhere, it looks like the TV channel completely erased the restaurant’s name from the awning in the video’s opening shot.”

The Clipse even called the promo flyer “Coontastic”, this whole eating chiken concept for the video plays into a lot of racial stereotypes, I’m surprised considering how great the director is.
Adding further insult, shooting at Obama Fried Chicken Shack, really,WTF!
Wow. Is MTV the only media outlet covering the awning? That wouldn’t be a huge surprise, to be fair. MTV has censored more that their share of art in the past. I wonder if their standards and practices department made this decision independently or if there were complaints. Regardless, fantastic video, Rik. Any press is good press. Maintain your vision. Peace.
Hey Rik… I’m from Brokelyn, the blog that started it all, even though NBC TOTALLY BOGARTED our scoop. They’ve gotten hundreds of thousands of hits on this story, and fewer than 300 have made their way to our site from NBC. We got the story because our intern loves rap music and happened to be watching MTV, which you can be sure no one at NBC is doing. Plus, NBC didn’t even mention your name… There’s no ladylike word for how I feel about this, so I’m just gonna say congrats on all the press. Thanks to the conservative Big Brother conspiracies, a whole lot of people have seen your video. Rock on.
